Pleyer water penetration test tubes - vertical for the wall
Pleyer water penetration test tubes - vertical for the wall
Water penetration test tube according to Pleyer - vertical for the wall in 30 or 50 mm
The Pleyer test tube is used to determine the water absorption coefficient of building materials. It is characterised by a special design that minimises the multi-dimensional transport of liquid, which enables more precise measurements. The Pleyers test tube consists of two separate chambers:
- Inner chamber: This chamber is in direct contact with the test surface of the building material and has a circular shape. The liquid contained in this chamber spreads out cylindrically and one-dimensionally in the building material.
- Outer chamber: There is an additional circular ring around the inner chamber, which contains a liquid that is distributed in the building material in the form of a quarter torus. This chamber serves to reduce the multidimensional suction effect.
We offer the Pleyer test tubes in 4 different versions:
- Test chamber diameter of 30 mm
- Test chamber diameter of 50 mm
- Vertical for walls
- Horizontal for floors
How it works:
- First, the test tube is placed on the surface of the building material. The two chambers are sealed from each other with putty strips (supplied) to ensure that no liquid can pass between them.
- When carrying out the measurement, make sure that the water columns in the tubes of the two chambers are at the same height. This is important so that the same hydrostatic pressure prevails in both chambers. The equalised pressure prevents unwanted liquid transport between the two chambers.
- The liquid in the inner chamber penetrates the building material in a targeted manner and its spread is monitored over time. The amount of liquid that is absorbed allows the water absorption coefficient of the material to be read directly.
A major advantage of the Pleyers test tube is that no conversion or mathematical correction of the measured values is necessary, as is the case with similar methods, e.g. the Karsten test tube. The water absorption coefficient can be read directly from the scaling in the inner tube in litres/m².
